Angry customer role play practice

Practice the angry customer before your next shift.

An AI customer with your real complaint is already upset and speaks first. Calm them down by voice or text, fix what you are allowed to fix, then see the exact line that kept or lost them.

15 rounds free (a round is one exchange with your opponent).

See it in action

An angry customer call, start to finish

  1. You set the complaint. The customer opens, upset. Your job is to calm it and fix it.
  2. It pushes back, out loud. Answer by voice or type. The opponent follows up on what you actually said.
  3. You get a scorecard. Your score, the line that cost you most, and what to say instead.

How a session works

Three steps, a few minutes

  1. Describe the job and the complaint. Your role and business, and what the customer is angry about. Add what you are allowed to offer, like a refund up to $50 or nothing without a manager, so your fix has to fit real limits.
  2. Pick the customer and talk. Furious and demanding a manager, threatening a review or a lawyer, entitled and wanting it all free, or upset and near tears. They speak first. Choose 4, 8 or 12 exchanges or open-ended, on Easy, Normal or Hard.
  3. Get the scorecard. Scored on Empathy, Ownership, Resolution and Composure, tied to whether the customer would stay, with the moment that most changed their mood and the exact line to use next time.

5/ 10
You stayed calm but hid behind policy
Angry Customer · Support rep, internet provider · Charged after canceling
Empathy
Ownership
Resolution
Composure
Your #1 priority: Ownership You explained the billing rule before owning the mistake, so the customer heard an excuse.
Missed moment
“Unfortunately our system bills on the first of the month, so that's our policy.”

Blaming the system with nothing after it pushed the customer's anger back up. They asked for a manager two lines later.

Try instead: “You canceled and we still charged you, and that's on us. I've started a $64.99 refund right now. It will show in 3 to 5 business days, and the confirmation is in your email. Does that work for you?”

Your next drill: for three replies in a row, name what went wrong in the customer's own words before you explain anything.

Free sessions show your score, the bars, your #1 priority and one missed moment with a better line. Any pack or plan unlocks every moment and your next drill.

What the customer will try

  • “I want to speak to your manager.” The furious customer talks over you and demands a supervisor. Letting them finish and saying what you will do right now brings them down a notch. “Calm down” brings them back up.
  • “I'm leaving a one-star review.” Threats of a review, a social media post, a lawyer or a chargeback test whether you panic and over-promise. Promising what you can't deliver caps your Resolution score at 4.
  • “I've been a customer for years.” The entitled customer wants everything comped, now. Staying warm while holding the line on what is fair is what earns their respect.
  • “That's not good enough.” On Normal, the customer turns down your first offer if it came before an apology, and brings up a second complaint halfway through.
  • “That's our policy” bait. Saying it with nothing else, making excuses, blaming a colleague or the system, or reading a script all raise the customer's anger. “That's our policy” alone caps Ownership at 4.
  • Quiet, not loud. The upset customer is near tears because it mattered, like a birthday or a trip they saved for. A fast refund without acknowledging that makes it worse.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can I use the exact complaints we get at work?

Yes. You type your job and business and what the customer is angry about, and the customer argues from those details. Describe the situation, not the person: leave out real customer names and account details. You can also set what you are allowed to offer, and the scorecard checks whether your fix stayed inside it.

Will the customer just calm down if I apologize?

Not right away. The customer keeps track of how angry they are and calms down in stages. A specific apology, taking ownership, a concrete fix with a timeline and checking that it works for them all help. Excuses, being transferred and matching their tone make it worse. They never go from furious to happy in one turn.

Does it work for phone, in-person and chat support?

Yes. Voice works in Chrome, Edge and Safari, which suits phone and counter work. For chat and email support, type your replies instead. Audio is never stored. Your transcript is kept for you.

Can I train my whole support or retail team with it?

Yes. On a team plan you invite staff with a link. The team report shows each person's sessions and their average and best scores, plus the team's weakest skills, over the last 30 days. It never shows anyone's transcripts. Each person writes their own scenario, so give them the situations your team really handles, without customer names or account details.

Does it cover abusive or dangerous customers?

It covers customers who are angry, rude or threatening to complain. The AI customer is told never to use slurs or threaten violence. It is practice for the conversation, not workplace safety training, so follow your employer's policy for anything physical.
